MALIN AKERMAN TALKS ABOUT BEING THE SILK SPECTRE

Malin Akerman is the Silk Spectre / Laurie Juspeczyk (i remember Malin v.fondly for her breast-baring role in Harold and Kumar Goes To White Castle :p) and she speaks about her movie-role on SuperHeroHype (this is an edited excerpt)

MALIN AKERMAN: This is a really cool role. She's sort of the psychology of the film because she's the only woman in the "Watchmen" aside from the previous "Watchmen." She is a femme fatale, she is a kick ass fighter, and I think she sort of carries the emotion of the film because she is the only woman amongst all of these men. They're going through sort of not being the Watchmen anymore and dealing with that as well as trying to figure out who is trying to kill them off. It's a really, really, really well written script. [It's a ]Really great role that I'm so excited to do because it's so opposite from what I just did. It's a wonderful novel and very true to the novel. If you're familiar with the novel that's it.

SHH: When do you start filming? How long are you shooting for?
AKERMAN: They've already started this week actually. I start October 15th. Until February. It's a long shoot.

SHH: Are you ready for that process with the green screen and all?
AKERMAN: There's not that much green screen because it's very real. We're not superheroes or anything like that. We just fight. We fight crime. There's only one scene on Mars that I think will be a green screen. I'm excited. I'm looking forward to trying new things.

/// all of which reads possibly not much superhero-spandex throughout (except for maybe flashbacks sequences) ... but she'll look so pretty in yellow (altho im not too sure for when she goes brunette tho :p) ... *heh*

WHO IS SILK SPECTRE?

Silk Spectre is the name shared by a mother and daughter fictional superheroine pair who are central characters in the classic comic book series Watchmen by Alan Moore, and published by DC Comics. They are often said to be modified versions of the character Nightshade from Charlton Comics; however, Alan Moore has stated that he found Nightshade "boring," and that Silk Spectre was modeled on sexier characters such as the Phantom Lady and Black Canary. (It is perhaps notable that Black Canary is also an alias shared by a mother and daughter.) [wiki]

WHY IS THE SILK SPECTRE ON MARS?

After retiring (from crime-fighting), Laurie lived with (Dr) Manhattan for a number of years, but their relationship became strained ... Laurie eventually left Doctor Manhattan and began living with Dan Dreiberg, a.k.a. the second Nite-Owl, and the two soon became romantically involved. On a whim, emboldened by the imminent nuclear war, Dreiberg and Laurie decided to don their old costumes and take Dreiberg's airship Archie out. During their flight, they found a building on fire and rescued the inhabitants. Soon after, Laurie was brought to Mars by Dr. Manhattan, where she attempted to convince him to save humanity from impending nuclear war. During their conversation, Laurie finally came to the realization that, to her horror, her father was really the Comedian. Moved by the sheer unlikelihood of two people as different as Sally Jupiter and the Comedian producing a child, and the child being Laurie, Dr. Manhattan realized the miracle and value of human life and agreed to save the planet.
